Journal Entry #1 The Internet!

Throughout this learning module I finally learned the difference between The internet and the world wide web. I was shocked when I found out that the world wide web didn't come out until almost 30 years after the internet had been designed. I was surprised by  this picture noticing that the U.S. is only the 3rd most users of the internet. It's actually pretty cool that you know that people all over the world are commenting on your pictures or viewing your material. I had heard about ARPANET before but I have never understood its significance. The beginning of the internet was between 2 schools and then spread to 3 and 4 and now covers users worldwide.

4 Words I learned

1. ISOC- The internet society. I learned that they are the overseers of the rules to the web. meeting regularly they are able to establish new guidelines and rules that ensures the internet runs smoothly.

2.FTP- File transfer protocol. The most common way of uploading and sharing media such as videos, pictures, documents.

3. HTTP- Hypertext transfer protocol. The method in which information of a web page is transferred to a browser to be viewed.

4.HTML- Hypertext markup language. Allows for the creation of a webpage with words and pictures in a very simple format.
